“In November 1976, I was at Loch Ness, in Scotland. Artist at large, on the subject of the Loch Ness monster, complete with plates, lino, press and kit. One morning…over the wheel of my green minor 1000 Van…there it was – Something of amplitude. The surprise of cognisance this time was not disappointing, since I wasn’t exactly expectant for the monster to reveal itself to me. Nevertheless, this duck or hen had swum submerged, to spring into view above the surface, and achieved great relative scale to the minds’ eye…”. Consequentially Flanagan made an edition of three ‘flying nessies’, in ceramic.
