Flanagan’s Black Ad (1970) features in Autonomy at Gallery 46, a new gallery in Ashlfiled Street in Hackney, East London. Black Ad (1970) was Flanagan’s contribution to the October 1970 edition of Studio International in which this artwork doubled as an advertisement. Black Ad, (1970) was located beside the contents page of the magazine where you would usually find advertisements, and the accompanying text stated that for a small fee you could obtain a copy of the print if you sent this ad to Flanagan’s home address.
